Cook rice in the oven for more even spread heat. This eliminates the need for a rice maker, especially if you have a small living space, and I actually find the oven method preferable. Rinsing the rice is important, but I don't hand wash it umpteen times like some chefs suggest. The last trick is fluff and let sit a few minutes with a dish towel under the lid to allow steam to dissipate.

Tim's Notes

Cook rice in the oven for more even heat. This eliminates the need for a rice maker, especially if you have a small living space, and I actually find the oven method preferable. Rinsing the rice is important, but I don't hand wash it umpteen times like some chefs pontificate. The last trick is fluff and let sit a few minutes with a dish towel under the lid to allow steam to dissipate.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup rice
  • 1-2/3 cup water
  • 1/2 tbsp butter (optional)
  • 1 tsp kosher salt

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 F.
  2. Rinse rice until water is clear.
  3. Bring water to boil in an oven safe pot.
  4. Add butter and salt.
  5. Combine water and rice.
  6. Cover and bake 25 min.
  7. Fluff with fork.
  8. Hang towel over pot handle (for safety), put dish towel under lid, let sit five minutes.
