Tim's Notes
Cook rice in the oven for more even heat. This eliminates the need for a rice maker, especially if you have a small living space, and I actually find the oven method preferable. Rinsing the rice is important, but I don't hand wash it umpteen times like some chefs pontificate. The last trick is fluff and let sit a few minutes with a dish towel under the lid to allow steam to dissipate.
Ingredients
- 1 cup rice
- 1-2/3 cup water
- 1/2 tbsp butter (optional)
- 1 tsp kosher salt
Directions
- Preheat oven to 375 F.
- Rinse rice until water is clear.
- Bring water to boil in an oven safe pot.
- Add butter and salt.
- Combine water and rice.
- Cover and bake 25 min.
- Fluff with fork.
- Hang towel over pot handle (for safety), put dish towel under lid, let sit five minutes.
