Ham, Cheese, and Caramelized Onions in Puff Pastry (Tammy)

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg (2 sheets) frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 1/4 cup Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 lb black forest ham, sliced
  • 1 cup Swiss Gruyere cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup caramelized onions
  • 1 tbls fresh thyme leaves
  • Egg wash (1 egg, beaten with 1 tbls water)

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 450F. Place a piece of parchment paper on a sheet pan. Roll out one sheet puff pastry to a 10" x12" rectangle and place it on the sheet pan. Brush the center with the mustard, leaving a 1" border around the edge. Place a layer of ham and then cheese, and then the onions. Sprinkle with the thyme, leaving a 1" border. Brush the border with the egg wash. Roll the second sheet out to the same size And place on top of the filled pastry, lining up the edges. Crimp with a fork. Brush the top with egg wash and cut a few slits in the top to allow steam to escape. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until puffed and golden brown.
