Chipotle BBQ Sauce
This smoky, spicy chipotle barbecue sauce is bold, tangy, and perfect for grilled meats or roasted vegetables.
Ingredients
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 1/3 cup malt vinegar
- 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
- 2/3 cup water
- 2 cups ketchup
- 2-1/2 tbsp molasses
- 1 can (6 oz) chipotle in adobo
- 1/3 cup soy sauce
- 1/3 cup dark brown sugar
- 2 tbsp honey
- 1-1/2 tbsp onion powder
- 2 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp black pepper
Instructions
- Heat 2 tbsp oil in a pot over medium heat. Sauté chopped onion for about 10 minutes until slightly translucent and beginning to brown.
- Add all remaining ingredients and stir to combine.
- Simmer for about 25 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Push mixture through a sieve or strainer. (Reserve solids like onions and chipotles for other uses, if desired.)
